Living a life of Enough

This week I’m sharing the post that started it all. Wil Reynolds founded Seer Interactive, a multi-million dollar digital marketing agency. He’s at the point in his life where he has everything he needs and has decided to cap his upside. That is, he has enough.

A lot of us are still striving. I for one still am. I have an idea of my enough number and am no where close to hitting it.

In contrast, Wil is already there. He knows his enough number and has already hit it. Everything from here on out is excess, and he doesn’t want it. He has enough.

That’s the most important thing to know about this article and Wil. This isn’t an aspirational article written by somebody saying “here’s what I’ll do when I have enough”. It’s what he’s actually doing.

He’s:

  • Actively diluting his stake in his company and giving it to his early employees.
  • Actively creating an idea of phantom equity and honouring that as though it’s real equity.

This dude is amazing. Btw, it’s worth noting that I am personal friends with one other person who has done this. He also diluted his stake in the company. My friend is amazing too.

I’m so glad to have all these examples in my life of people who see that they have enough and actively cap their upside. It’s my hope that in sharing them, more people will realise there are other ways of living life that isn’t just about accumulating as much money as you can until you die.
